About the Studio
Welcome to my Studio
Dr. D’s piano studio welcomes students of age 5-95 and any level and prior music experience. Private lessons are offered in piano, jazz piano, music theory, ear training, composition, and conducting.
About the Instructor
Dr. Dimitar Nikolov (Dr. D) has over 25 years of experience teaching all ages and musical styles (classical, pop, jazz, gospel, folk, etc.). He has degrees from the Catholic University of America (Doctor of Musical Arts), University of Northern Iowa (MA in Music), and the Bulgarian National Academy of Music (MM and BM). He is currently on the piano faculty of the International School of Music, Bethesda, MD. He is also a very experienced vocal coach and has worked as a Vocal Coach/Staff Accompanist for Simpson College, Waldorf University, Catholic University, Des Moines Metro Opera, John Hopkins University, and Burgas State Opera. Dr. Nikolov is also an active conductor. He is the Music Director/Conductor of the Pro
Artè Chamber Orchestra of Greater Washington and Music Director/Conductor of the Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra.

My mission as a teacher is to empower students to develop lifelong appreciation for music. Students will develop life-long lasting valuable skills. I offer an unique approach that meets the individual needs of each student. As a teacher with over 25 years of experience, I believe that students will succeed only if they enjoy making music and are fully engaged during their lessons and practice sessions. I offer lessons that are very interactive. I have developed a variety of game like musical activities that help develop the student’s technique, aural acuteness, and rhythmic sense.
